Will the oil leak in the Gulf ever be stopped?

Will BP ever stop the oil leak? Our government has left BP to deal with the problem despite the fact BP failed to even provide an adequate plan to deal with a large spill like this one. In testimony before Congress, all the oil companies seemed to have the same inadequate plan. Maybe this is standard operating procedure for the big oil companies? They can do whatever they want in Nicaragua and no one really cares. They can buy Congress with high priced lobbyists and political contributions. The Congress will only regulate more and shut down drilling in the coast leading to lost jobs and oil companies moving their drilling rigs out of the Gulf coast. More regulations will prevent common sense and clean up efforts.

BP has not been honest about the size of the spill from the beginning of the oil spill. They have down played the amount of oil in the gulf. Who knows if they are telling the truth about how big the problem really is down below the ocean? They control the feeds or the flow of information from the spill. The government really needs to do something about this. Some people are saying that there is a massive deposit of methane gas under the Gulf of Mexico and the drill has fractured the area leaving methane and oil coming up all over the place in the Gulf of Mexico. The government needs to make oil companies produce the well logs of the rigs in the area. This would provide more information.

Maybe the government could use a bomb. I heard that Russia has used nuclear bombs to stop gas leaks. President Clinton has even suggested that the US consider using a bomb. Even some experts are considering this option. Experts have said that you could use a conventional weapon today because the drilling technology has improved where they can place the bomb more precisely. This may be risky. Some geologists are saying the geology is not right to have a nuclear bomb fuse the earth’s crust in that area.

It is obvious that BP can't fix the problem. It is time to let other oil companies, other governments, or the US government to take over stopping the oil spill. This oil spill is affecting the Gulf coast economy, the U.S. economy and Obama would be justified in acting on national security grounds. Our government should start doing more now before it too late. Obama needs show some leadership and solve this problem. This is turning into Obama’s Katrina. Just letting BP do what ever it wants is not working.
